Miscellaneous Locales

What follows are places that are of little importance, but still warrant a mention all the same. Many of these locales are not easy to reach—if some of them actually exist—and as such, we recommend them to only the most adventurous tourists.

Cosmo Canyon region: Ancient Forest
This thick section of forest is located on a high ridge southeast of Cosmo Canyon village. It is said to be teeming with plant and animal life, including rare exotic species found nowhere else in the world. Rumor has it that the monsters in the forest are also much more ravenous than their bretheren elsewhere in the canyon.

Cactus Island
Save for a small patch of green, this tiny speck of land is a true "desert island", home to many cactuars. It is located south of the Western Continent and can be reached by air or gold chobobo south.

Icicle region: Chocobo Sage
A wise person who knows some of the most valuable secrets of chocobo breeding is rumored to live in this area.

Goblin Island
Part of an island chain located north of the Eastern Continent, Goblin Island is named after the clans of goblins who populate its forest.

Gold Saucer region: Weapon Shop
An enterprising weaponsmith has set up shop on a peninsula southeast of the Gold Saucer and northeast of Gongaga. In addition to weapons, he sometimes carries very rare items, and is thus a must-visit for shoppers who prize the esoteric.

Junon region: Old Miner's Cave
This out-of-the-way mine was once planned to be an expansion of the Kalm region's mythrill mining operations, but was later abandoned. One old miner has since come to live here, though all he seems to do is sleep.

Materia Caves
Legend has it that four caves, untouched by man for centuries, exist throughout the world, and that they contain rare materia the likes of which no one has ever seen before. The Shinra has unable to pinpoint the locations of these caves, and have since moved on to searching for more easily accessible sources of mako and materia.

Nibel region: Waterfall
Climb high enough in the moutains southeast of Nibelheim, and you will come across an incredibly deep lake, fed by a cascading waterfall. Rumor has it that some sort of cave exists behind this waterfall, though investigations by the Shinra have yet to be carried out.
