Corel was once a peaceful coal mining community. That is, until some rebellious villagers decided to oppose the construction of the local mako reactor. Their foolish actions resulted in the destruction of their own town. Don't listen to the locals' stories about how Shinra fabricated a story about rebels blowing up the reactor, as it simply isn't true.
Getting There
North Corel is nestled in a small valley just north of the Gold Saucer. If you're traveling from Costa del Sol, the town region is a day's walk from there; simply climb the mountains south of town, then follow the railroad tracks from the North Corel Mako Reactor southward.
Points of Interest
North Corel Mako Reactor - This reactor supplies electricity to the world-famous Gold Saucer. Like all of Shinra's mako reactors, the North Corel Reactor is closed to the general public.
Ropeway Station - This station, found on the outskirts of North Corel, features a cable car that travels to the Gold Saucer.
Corel Prison - Located at the foot of the Gold Saucer, this outdoor prison is smack in the middle of a vast and imposing desert, and is home to some of the East Continent's most notorious criminals. However, because of its location, law-abiding tourists shouldn't worry about ever having to set foot in this horrible place during their travels.
Shopping
Tool Shop, Weapons Shop, and General Store - Though there isn't much selection at any of these establishments, they do stock some unique items that you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. Worth a visit if you happen to be in the area and need to stock up on the essentials.
Lodging and Accomodations
North Corel Inn - Even though it is in dire need of some major renovations, this inn is an ideal place to rest up for the budget-conscious traveler.
