Tips for Travellers
• Always travel in a group. Traveling in twos is good, but traveling in threes is even better!
• If you need to travel a great distance and want to avoid getting in trouble, you may want to catch a chocobo. Chocobos can be caught wherever you see chocobo tracks. You will need a Chocobo Lure materia and greens to catch a chocobo; both are available at the Chocobo Farm. To travel across mountains, rivers, and oceans, you will need to breed special chocobos. A chocobo Sage is believed to be living somewhere on the North Continent; if you find him, he will be able to tell you how to raise these special chocobos.
• If you want to travel by means other than on foot or by chocobo, mako-powered cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles are available for purchase from the Shinra Electric Power Company. Please note that unlike chocobos, these vehicles will not necessary protect you from chance encounters with enemies. Aircraft, such as the Gelnika-class cargo planes and the long-range airship Highwind, are military property and are not accesible to the general public.
• Keep plenty of curatives on hand. We cannot stress this enough. The most important ones to keep on hand are hi-potions, ethers, tents, hypers, and tranquilzers. If you happen to come across any X-potions, turbo ethers, elixers, and megalixers in your travels, hold on to them, and don't use them unless you really have to (since these curatives are unavailable in any store).
• Keep curative/defensive materia equipped. Again, this is vitally important. Curative materia include Cure, Heal, Revive, and Phoenix. Defensive materia include Barrier, Time, Mystify, Seal, and Exit.
• Keep as much materia equipped as possible. Not only will this help your materia grow faster, but it will also give you more attack options during an encounter.
• Listen to what the locals tell you and take note of what items/weapons/materia are sold where. Something you can't afford now you may be able to go back and get later.
